Why December is the PERFECT Time To Sleep Train

12/8/2022

I know December can feel like an absolute madhouse and therefore, the worst possible time to sleep train.

But I’d like to offer that it actually could be the perfect time to sleep train. What better way to launch into the new year than with your biggest New Years Resolution – better sleep for the family – already achieved? Start the year feeling AMAZING instead of resolved!

Here’s ten reasons that this is actually the perfect time to embark on sleep training.

  1. The days are super short and the nights are super long.

Guys. Mother Earth is helping you out here.

Darkness makes sleep so much easier to achieve.

Kids sleep more at this time of year.

    Take advantage!

  2. Work pressure is low (for most people).

Bosses understand that you have a lot of family obligations.

Lots of people are out of the office.

    There’s fewer meetings.

In other words: the demands on your brain are less.

Take advantage of this and apply that extra energy to the process that will actually create energy: creating better sleep for your family.

  3. You’re taking time off anyway.

Instead of cramming in a bunch of short-lived fun, why not invest that time in your child and your family?

Plan your days around achieving amazing sleep.

That doesn’t mean that you can’t still do fun activities; it just means you need to be a bit more strategic about them.

  4. You’re going to be staying at the large house of a close friend or family relative over the holidays.

If you live in a small urban space, going to Grandma’s house is an amazing opportunity.

Give your child their own room (even if it means the parent(s) and other siblings have to share a room).

Sleep training is so much easier when the child has their own space.

Even better, you can get emotional support with sleep training. Just tell Grandma, “Please don’t gve me advice. Just keep telling me I’m doing the better thing. Better yet, offer me a chance to leave the house and go get coffee while you do nap duty.”

  5. For two-parent families, you’re both home and can support each other with sleep training.

For single parent families, you may have an easier time enlisting the support of another adult now than in the busy month of January. Even a single night or nap with support is helpful.

  6. For those who don’t celebrate Christmas, you have a bunch of time off without a lot of demands on your time.

What better time to take on this project? It's hard to imagine a more worthwhile investment of your time and energy.

  7. Even if you are traveling, most likely, once you arrive at your destination, you don’t have a lot of high pressure demands on your time.

There might be a lot of things you would like to do, but most of them are technically optional, unlike work demands.

And for obligations like family dinners, people who love you are more likely to flex their schedules to accommodate your beloved little one than, say, your boss.

  8. Your favorite sleep coach doesn’t celebrate Christmas and has extra time to devote to you.

    Just sayin’.

  9. What better holiday gift can you give your child and yourself than the gift of great sleep?

Great sleep is transformative. Your child will be happier when she or he is well rested -- I promise. You will be happier when you are well-rested. The entire family will function better.

You will enjoy the holidays -- whatever you do or don't celebrate -- so much more when your basic biological needs (which, yes, include sleep) are being met.

    You deserve that.

  10. Your child has extra time off from childcare or school and is therefore more likely to be healthy.

It also means you have more control over your child’s nap schedule, which can increase your odds of success.

Don’t wait for January. That month is bleak enough.

Make some changes in your routine now, while you’re energized, and start 2023 already feeling amazing because of being well-rested.

If you're ready to give your family the gift of great sleep, don't wait. Book your complimentary sleep consultation now.

PS I won't be doing any calls December 15-22 but I will be available for text support with current clients on those dates. Other than that, I am available to you!
